XOP Caol Ila 40 Year Old 1980

An extremely hard to find 1980’s birth year bottle. Distilled in 1980 at Caol Ila distillery, the spirit is laid to sleep for four centuries in a single refill hogshead and bottled by Douglas Laing for its XOP Old Particular range in 2021. One of only 206 hand-filled bottles available.

Tasting Note

Nose

Expect immediately oceanic, West Coast of Scotland character, with enticing yet subtle phenols coming through.

Palate

The palate reveals leather, malted barley, spices and a honey-glazed smoked meat quality.

Finish

The finish is exceptional, with more peat smoke, dried citric fruits and oak bonfire embers.
