About the distillery

Tamdhu Distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Knockando, on the banks of the River Spey. It was founded in 1897 by a group of blenders with the goal of producing high-quality whisky for blending purposes. The name “Tamdhu” comes from Gaelic, meaning “little dark hill.”

Tamdhu has a long-standing reputation for sherry cask maturation, with all its official single malts being matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry-seasoned casks sourced from Spain. This gives the whisky a rich, full-bodied character with notes of dried fruits, spices, and oak.

After being mothballed in 2010, Tamdhu was purchased by Ian Macleod Distillers in 2011, who revived the brand and shifted its focus to producing premium single malt expressions, such as the Tamdhu 12YO, 15YO, and Batch Strength series.

Today, Tamdhu is known for its traditional approach—utilizing worm tub condensers, floor maltings (historically), and meticulous cask selection—to create elegant and complex whiskies that reflect Speyside’s classic style, elevated by sherry cask influence.

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Tamdhu single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2013.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 494 liters | New strength 69.7% ABV | 344 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 703 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
