About the distillery

Speyburn Distillery was established in 1897 by John Hopkins & Company in the town of Rothes, in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. It was founded to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and produced its first spirit later that same year—reportedly under difficult winter conditions with unfinished buildings and no doors.

The distillery is nestled in a secluded, tree-lined valley near the Granty Burn, a tributary of the River Spey. This pure water source is a key element in Speyburn’s production, contributing to its clean, bright character.

Speyburn is known for crafting approachable, elegant single malts with a light to medium body, offering notes of apple, citrus, vanilla, and gentle maltiness. Though long used in blending, the brand has gained recognition for its value-driven and quality single malts, such as the Speyburn 10, 15, and 18 Year Olds, often matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks.

Today, Speyburn is owned by Inver House Distillers (a subsidiary of ThaiBev) and continues to be a well-loved Speyside brand, offering classic, fresh, and accessible Scotch whisky expressions to a global audience.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Speyburn single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2009.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 179 liters | New strength 47.14% ABV | 84 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 253 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
