About the distillery

Port Dundas was a historic grain whisky distillery located in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1811, it became one of the largest and most significant grain whisky producers in the country. The distillery played a major role in the development of blended Scotch whisky, supplying high-quality grain spirit to many well-known brands.

Over time, Port Dundas merged with other local distilleries and eventually came under the ownership of Diageo. It operated two Coffey stills for continuous distillation, producing large volumes of grain whisky made primarily from maize and wheat. Unlike single malt whisky, grain whisky from Port Dundas was typically lighter and more neutral, ideal for blending but occasionally released as a single grain by independent bottlers.

In 2010, Diageo closed the distillery permanently as part of a restructuring effort, consolidating production into newer facilities. Since its closure, Port Dundas single grain whiskies have become collectible, especially older cask-aged expressions that reveal surprisingly rich, creamy, and vanilla-forward profiles.

Port Dundas remains an important part of Scotland’s whisky history as a pioneering grain distillery in the industrial era.

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Port Dundas single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2000.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 128 liters | New strength 57.7% ABV | 74 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 180 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
