About the distillery

Old Rhosdhu isn’t the name of a distillery, but rather a style of single malt that used to be made at Loch Lomond Distillery. Back in the 1960s to early 2000s, Loch Lomond was known for its versatility — using different stills to create multiple styles of whisky under various names. Old Rhosdhu was one of them.

Compared to their more heavily peated or robust expressions, Old Rhosdhu had a softer, lighter profile. It’s usually described as mildly peated, gently fruity, sometimes even waxy or grassy — depending on age and cask.

It’s no longer produced under that name, but independent bottlers still occasionally release well-aged Old Rhosdhu casks. These bottlings offer a unique look back at how experimental and diverse Loch Lomond's output used to be.

In short, Old Rhosdhu is a quiet piece of Loch Lomond history — not a distillery, but a distinctive malt with character and charm.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Old Pulteney single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 1993.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 198 liters | New strength 57.6% ABV | 114 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 281 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
