About the distillery

Old Pulteney Distillery was founded in 1826 and is located in the coastal town of Wick, in the far north of the Scottish Highlands. It is one of the most northerly mainland distilleries in Scotland and has long been associated with the sea—earning it the nickname “The Maritime Malt.”

Due to its remote location and proximity to the North Sea, Old Pulteney’s whisky often reflects a distinctive maritime character, with noticeable notes of salt, brine, and sea spray. This is complemented by soft fruit, honeyed malt, and a lightly oily texture.

The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills with unique, truncated shapes—particularly the wash still, which has no swan neck. This design contributes to Old Pulteney’s robust and flavorful spirit.

Today, the brand is well known for its age-statement core range, including the 12, 15, and 18-year-old expressions, and for limited editions matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Old Pulteney whiskies are often praised for their balance between freshness, salinity, and depth of flavor.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Old Pulteney single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2013.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 192 liters | New strength 68.3% ABV | 131 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 271 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
