About the distillery

North British isn’t the kind of name whisky drinkers often see on bottles — but behind the scenes, it plays a major role in the Scotch whisky world. Founded in 1885 in Edinburgh, it’s one of Scotland’s largest grain whisky distilleries and a critical supplier for many blended Scotch brands.

Using mainly maize (corn) as its base grain, North British produces a light and clean grain spirit through continuous column distillation. The result is a whisky that’s delicate, slightly sweet, and highly adaptable — perfect for blending, but also surprisingly elegant when aged and bottled on its own.

Though official single grain releases from North British are rare, independent bottlers have occasionally offered well-aged expressions, often showcasing notes of vanilla, coconut, honey, and polished wood. These whiskies provide a unique look into the subtle beauty of grain whisky when given time and quality oak.

North British continues to operate at impressive scale, quietly supporting the Scotch industry from the heart of Edinburgh.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of North British single grain scotch whisky, distilled in 2010.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 223 liters | New strength 68.5% ABV | 153 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 316 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
