Mackinlay's Blended Malt Scotch

This whisky is a modern recreation of a historic expedition whisky linked to British Antarctic exploration, produced under the Mackinlay’s name.

The story begins with Ernest Shackleton, who led the 1907 Nimrod Expedition to Antarctica. During the journey, Shackleton and his team brought cases of Mackinlay’s whisky to endure the extreme conditions of the polar environment. As the expedition progressed, they were forced to abandon some of their supplies, including whisky stored in crates at their base camp in Antarctica.

Over a century later, in 2007, a team of conservationists and researchers discovered these frozen crates beneath the Antarctic ice. Among the finds were original bottles of Mackinlay’s whisky, preserved by the extreme cold. The bottles were carefully recovered and analyzed to understand their composition and character. While the recovered whisky was not widely released for consumption, it provided a rare glimpse into early 20th-century whisky styles.

Inspired by this discovery, a modern whisky was later created under the Mackinlay’s name. This contemporary bottling is not the original Antarctic liquid, but a reimagined blended malt Scotch whisky designed to reflect the style and spirit of what Shackleton’s expedition may have drunk over 100 years ago.

Crafted as a blended malt, it contains only malt whiskies from multiple distilleries, selected to recreate a rich, slightly old-fashioned profile. Bottled at 47.3% ABV, it aims to balance historical character with modern drinkability.
