About the distillery

Macduff Distillery was established in 1960 near the town of Macduff, in the Highland region of Scotland. As a relatively modern distillery, it was designed with efficiency in mind and features a unique still configuration—including oddly-angled lyne arms—which contributes to its distinctive character.

Owned today by John Dewar & Sons (part of Bacardi), Macduff produces the single malt whisky that is mostly marketed under the brand name Glen Deveron, particularly in travel retail markets. While the majority of its spirit is used in blending (notably in Dewar’s blends), independent bottlings of Macduff under its original name do appear and are prized for their gentle fruity profile.

Macduff's single malt typically delivers notes of orchard fruit, soft toffee, light nuttiness, and subtle coastal salinity—reflecting its coastal Highland location.

Although not a classic tourist destination, Macduff plays an important role in modern whisky production and offers a versatile, approachable Highland malt.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Macduff single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2009.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 210 liters | New strength 56.4% ABV | 118 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 297 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
