The Komagatake 2013 Single Sherry Cask #1597 "Phoenix and the Sun" is a limited edition single malt whisky from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Japan. This expression was produced exclusively for the Whisky Talk Fukuoka 2019 event.

Tasting Note

Nose

The aroma is rich and inviting, with prominent notes of dried fruits, particularly raisins and figs, complemented by hints of dark chocolate and a touch of oak. There are also subtle floral and spicy undertones.

Palate

On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-balanced, featuring flavours of sweet sherry, dark chocolate, and dried fruits. The oak influence is evident, providing a smooth and slightly tannic texture. There are also hints of spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, adding to the complexity.

Finish

The finish is long and lingering, with a pleasant warmth. It leaves a lasting impression of sweet sherry, oak, and a touch of spice.

This whisky is noted for its depth and balance, making it a standout expression from the Mars Shinshu distillery. It was matured in a single sherry butt, which contributes to its rich and complex flavour profile.
