This whisky marks the distillery's return to production after a hiatus, with the first batch distilled in February 2011. It is aged for three years in ex-bourbon casks and is lightly peated to 8 parts per million (ppm). The whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 58% ABV, making it a robust and intense spirit. The distillery is noted for being the highest operational distillery in Japan, which adds a unique character to its products.

Tasting Note

Nose

• Initial impressions are somewhat primal with strong malt and yeast notes, accompanied by an almost buttermilk-like sourness.
• Additional aromas include bubblegum, pear spirit, pineapple, and a faint grassiness.

Palate

• The whisky starts with a very salty note, followed by ripe yellow fruits and a delicate, salty smoke. There are hints of cake batter, wine, fruit compote, and malt.
• Peppery and sweet notes of brown gingerbread, coffee, oak, and brown sugar develop as it warms up.
• The taste is extremely balanced with a fine touch of peat.

Finish

• The finish is long, with the dark sweetness gradually fading and leaving a light acidity. The smoke remains the longest, along with a perfumed nut note.
