About the distillery

Kirkcowan is a label associated with whisky produced by Bladnoch Distillery, located in the Lowlands of Scotland near the River Bladnoch in Wigtown. Founded in 1817, Bladnoch is one of the oldest active distilleries in Scotland and the southernmost.

Bladnoch is known for crafting elegant Lowland-style single malts, often light, floral, and grassy, with notes of citrus, fresh herbs, and gentle spice. Under new ownership since 2015, the distillery has undergone major refurbishment and has since released both core range expressions and independently bottled variants under labels like Kirkcowan.

Kirkcowan whiskies are typically single malts sourced from Bladnoch and released through independent bottlers or as exclusive cask selections. They offer a different angle on Bladnoch’s distillate, often emphasizing natural cask influence and high-strength bottling without chill filtration or added color.

Though Kirkcowan is not a distillery itself, the name pays homage to the nearby village in Dumfries & Galloway and symbolizes the regional heritage of the liquid within.

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Kirkcowan Bladnoch single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2020.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 200 liters | New strength 63.7% ABV | 127 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 283 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
