About the Distillery

Kirkcowan is not a distillery, but rather a label used by independent bottlers to release single malt Scotch whisky—often believed to originate from the Bladnoch Distillery, located in the Lowlands of Scotland. Bladnoch, founded in 1817, is one of Scotland’s oldest operating distilleries and is known for producing light, floral Lowland-style whiskies.

The use of the name “Kirkcowan” pays homage to a small village near Bladnoch, reflecting the regional character of the whisky while keeping the true distillery source undisclosed. Kirkcowan releases are typically bottled without chill filtration, at natural color, and often at cask strength, offering a raw and unfiltered experience of Lowland whisky.

Though Kirkcowan is not a distillery itself, it represents a growing trend of transparency and individuality within the world of independently bottled Scotch whisky.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Kirkcowan single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2024.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 222 liters | New strength 63.5% ABV | 141 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 314 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
