About the distillery

Invergordon Distillery, established in 1959, is a grain whisky distillery located in the town of Invergordon in the northern Highlands of Scotland. Unlike single malt distilleries, which use malted barley in pot stills, Invergordon uses unmalted cereals (mainly maize or wheat) and operates large column stills to produce grain whisky.

As one of the few grain distilleries in Scotland, Invergordon plays a significant role in the production of blended Scotch whiskies. It is currently owned by Whyte & Mackay, and its output is largely used in their blended brands such as Whyte & Mackay, Claymore, and others.

While grain whisky is often less showcased than malt whisky, aged expressions of Invergordon—especially those released by independent bottlers—are prized for their smoothness, creamy vanilla notes, and elegant wood influence, particularly when matured in quality casks.

The distillery is one of the largest of its kind in Scotland and remains a key component in the blending industry.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Invergordon single grain scotch whisky, distilled in 1997.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 179 liters | New strength 50.8% ABV | 91 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 253 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
