About the distillery

The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in 1879 in the town of Rothes, in the heart of Speyside. Known for its dedication to quality and craftsmanship, Glenrothes has long been a respected name among whisky blenders and single malt enthusiasts alike.

The distillery is famous for its rich, complex style of single malt, often matured in sherry-seasoned oak casks. The whisky typically features notes of dried fruits, vanilla, spice, and citrus, offering a full-bodied yet elegant experience. Unlike many distilleries, Glenrothes traditionally labeled its whiskies by vintage (year of distillation), emphasizing its batch-specific approach and focus on maturity over age statements.

Now owned by Edrington, The Glenrothes has recently shifted back toward age-statement bottlings while maintaining its high standards in cask selection and spirit quality. The distillery’s dedication to slow distillation and exceptional wood policy has helped it remain a quiet but powerful presence in the world of Scotch whisky.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Glenrothes single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2014.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 502 liters | New strength 69.7% ABV | 350 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 714 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
