About the distillery

Craigellachie Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, near the village of Craigellachie itself. It was established in 1891 by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie, two influential figures in the whisky industry. The name "Craigellachie" means “rocky hill” in Gaelic, referring to the cliff above the River Spey where the distillery is situated.

Craigellachie is known for its bold, distinctive spirit. Unlike many Speyside distilleries that aim for a light and fruity style, Craigellachie produces a heavier, meatier whisky. This is partly due to the use of worm tub condensers, an old-fashioned cooling method that helps retain more of the spirit’s weight and complexity.

While much of Craigellachie's output historically went into blends like Dewar’s, the distillery has in recent years gained more attention through official single malt releases, including age-statement bottlings like 13, 17, and 23 years old. These expressions are noted for their sulphury, waxy, and tropical fruit notes with a robust character.

Today, Craigellachie stands out as a Speyside distillery that embraces a distinctly traditional and characterful style, appealing to whisky drinkers who enjoy richness and depth.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Craigellachie single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2009.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 253 liters | New strength 63.5% ABV | 161 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 359 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
