The famous Chichibu whisky comes from the newly-established Chichibu distillery, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto. This rare single malt actually predates that! Chichibu 12 Years Old Golden Horse was made at Hanyu, a distillery founded in 1941 by Ichiro’s grandfather Isouji Akuto. Hanyu ceased production in 2000, since then bottles from this closed distillery have been highly sought after but rarely seen.
