Château Pétrus 2002 is a fine and surprisingly elegant expression from a vintage that was challenging across Bordeaux. The Pomerol region, however, fared better than the Left Bank, and Pétrus once again demonstrated its ability to produce excellence through careful vineyard management and selection. The 2002 vintage at Pétrus is known for its purity, finesse, and classical structure. While not as powerful as other great years, it has developed into a graceful, nuanced wine that is drinking beautifully today.

Tasting Note

Nose
Refined and layered aromas of red currant, cherry, and plum, with undertones of dried herbs, cedar, and hints of rose petal. A touch of earthy truffle and graphite adds depth and complexity.

Palate
Medium-bodied with elegant structure and soft, polished tannins. Flavors of red fruit, mocha, and a hint of black olive glide across the palate, balanced by bright acidity and a mineral-driven core. Subtle and sophisticated.

Finish
Lingering and smooth, with notes of red berries, soft spice, and earthy nuance. A gentle, intellectual finish that reflects the vintage’s classic character.
