The 1997 growing season was marked by a warm spring and a quick harvest, which led to wines that are more approachable in youth, with round textures and plush fruit. While not as concentrated as the more celebrated vintages, Pétrus’s exceptional terroir and meticulous winemaking still delivered a wine of grace, balance, and charm. Now fully mature, this vintage offers a velvety, elegant experience with gentle complexity.

Tasting Note

Nose
An inviting nose of stewed plum, cherry compote, and blackberry, with underlying notes of dried herbs, sweet tobacco, and hints of cinnamon and cedar. Mature aromas of leather and earth give it a graceful aged character.

Palate
Silky and medium-bodied, offering a plush texture and rounded tannins. Flavors of ripe red berries, fig, and mocha glide across the palate, joined by soft spice, forest floor, and a touch of licorice. Very balanced, with a gentle mouthfeel.

Finish
The finish is smooth and medium in length, with lingering notes of cherry, sweet spice, and earthy undertones. A soft, elegant closing to a mature and drinkable Pétrus.
