About the distillery

Burnside is not an actual distillery, but rather a teaspooned malt—a special type of blended malt whisky. It refers to Balvenie single malt that has been teaspooned with a tiny amount of Glenfiddich (or another distillery's whisky), preventing independent bottlers from legally labeling it as "Balvenie."

The practice of teaspooning is common among distilleries owned by William Grant & Sons, who also own both Balvenie and Glenfiddich. By adding just a drop (or "teaspoon") of a different single malt, the whisky is no longer considered a "single malt" under Scotch whisky regulations, but instead a blended malt.

Burnside whiskies are almost entirely composed of Balvenie and retain its honeyed, malty, and fruity character, but are sold under the name "Burnside" by independent bottlers, often at more accessible prices.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Bunnahabhain peated single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2010.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 186 liters | New strength 64.3% ABV | 120 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 263 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
