About the distillery

Bunnahabhain Distillery was established in 1881 and is located on the remote northeastern coast of Islay, Scotland. Unlike many other Islay distilleries known for their heavily peated whiskies, Bunnahabhain is famed for its unpeated or lightly peated style, which sets it apart from its island neighbors.

The distillery overlooks the Sound of Islay, a narrow strait between Islay and Jura, providing it with a dramatic coastal setting that influences the maritime character of its whiskies. Its name, Bunnahabhain (pronounced "Boo-na-havn"), comes from the Scottish Gaelic meaning "mouth of the river."

Bunnahabhain’s production focuses on traditional methods, using spring water from the Margadale River and sherry cask maturation to enhance its rich, oily, and complex spirit. Over the years, it has earned a strong reputation among whisky enthusiasts for its depth, elegance, and balance.

Today, Bunnahabhain continues to operate under the ownership of Distell Group, maintaining its legacy while expanding its range of age-stated and limited edition single malts.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Bunnahabhain single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2016.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 192 liters | New strength 63.5% ABV | 122 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 271 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
