About the Distillery

Balmenach Distillery was founded in 1824 by James MacGregor in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the village of Cromdale. One of the oldest distilleries in Speyside, Balmenach has a rich heritage and was one of the first to obtain a distilling license after the Excise Act of 1823.

The distillery is known for producing a robust and full-bodied single malt whisky, often used in blends. For much of its history, Balmenach’s spirit was a key component in blends like Johnnie Walker and others.

Now owned by Inver House Distillers (part of Thai Beverage), Balmenach remains relatively under-the-radar in the single malt scene. However, its spirit has gained attention through independent bottlings and its role in crafting Caorunn Gin, which is also produced on site using a unique copper berry chamber.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Balmenach single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2017.

The cask was regauged in January 2025, summarizing the following:

- New bulk 226 liters | New strength 59.6% ABV | 135 liters of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 320 x 70cl bottles of whisky.

IMPORTANT:

- Annual cask storage fee as well as any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Gallery. Funds will be held by Whisky Gallery until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
