The Ardbeg Supernova 2014 is a resurrected dram from the past, following in the footsteps of the first edition, which was the peatiest Ardbeg ever. This new release continues that tradition with a significant amount of smoke complemented by a backbone of fruit and sweetness. It is relatively light in colour and fresh on the nose, yet it retains a complex and robust character. This bottle is part of a private collection and reflects Ardbeg's nostalgic look back at the late 2000s.

Tasting Note

Nose

The aroma is characterised by an intense zestiness of smoked lemons and pears, along with notes of lemongrass and pine needles. Adding water releases billowing, aromatic smoke, peaty earth, heather root, and applewood smoked cheese.

Palate

The taste begins with a gentle warmth that builds to a peppery, spicy, and electric sensation. Flavours of powerful peppermint and antiseptic lozenges orbit around the peaty core. Dark birch tar intermingles with spicy-sweet chili-flavoured chocolate, all coated with linseed oil.

Finish

The finish is rich with flavours of tar, creosote, briar wood, spicy tobacco, and liquorice root. The aftertaste lingers indefinitely, disappearing into infinity.
