This edition explores the impact of different cask types on Ardbeg's signature style by combining traditional American oak casks with ex-Manzanilla sherry casks sourced from Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain.

Tasting Note

Nose

The whisky opens with sweet smoke, a touch of tar, and dried seaweed, accompanied by a coastal breeze and olive brine. There are also notes of charred lemons, candied lemon peel, fennel, chalk, walnuts, and a hint of mustard seeds. Another review describes the nose as having a mild Ardbeggian ashiness with a fresh, light brightness, featuring pomelo, dry Riesling, burnt lemon peels, and a toasty nuttiness.

Palate

On the palate, the whisky is described as sweet with tinned pineapples, ashy smoke, charred oak, and smoked peanut skins. It is also salty, with lemon making a return. Another perspective highlights a fresh, oily texture with aromatic herbs, bright tartness of Riesling, spearmint notes, and a complex aroma of freshly crushed black peppercorns.

Finish

The finish is medium in length, with a good pinch of salt, tar, and a hint of aniseed. It is also described as having light notes of lemon cake, burnt lemon peels, lively prickly spice, and a trailing ham-like smokiness.
