Ardbeg Kelpie is a limited edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky released in 2017 as part of Ardbeg's annual special release for Ardbeg Day. It is named after the mythical sea creatures called kelpies from Scottish folklore.

Tasting Note

Nose

Powerful aromas of oily peat smoke, dark chocolate, smoked fish, seaweed, and herbal notes. Hints of pine resin, coffee, and fudge emerge with water.

Palate

Peppery and briny mouthfeel. Flavors of smoked fish, bacon, dark chocolate, and Turkish coffee wash over the palate. Notes of tropical fruits, hickory wood, and black olives add complexity.

Finish

Long lasting with deep flavors of clove, tar, and rich coffee. The peat smoke lingers.

Overall, Ardbeg Kelpie offers a unique twist on Ardbeg's signature peaty style by incorporating virgin Black Sea oak casks. This imparts additional depth and complexity to complement the distillery's classic smoky, maritime character.
