The Akkeshi Shosho 2021 is a distinguished blended whisky that has garnered acclaim for its exceptional quality, being named the best blended whisky in the world at the World Whiskies Awards 2022. This accolade is a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of the Akkeshi distillery, located on the northernmost island of Hokkaido in Japan. The distillery, founded in 2013 by the Kenten Company, is sometimes referred to as the "little Lagavulin" due to its similarities with the famous Scottish distillery, including the use of peated barley and traditional pot stills. 

The Akkeshi Shosho 2021 is part of the "24 Sekki" series, inspired by the ancient Asian calendar which divides the year into 24 solar seasons, each associated with specific seasonal changes. The Shosho edition, which is the fourth release in this series, represents the season between late summer and early fall, a time when temperatures begin to drop and grains, especially barley, must be harvested. This blend is composed of a majority of malt whiskies distilled at Akkeshi, supplemented with some imported grain whiskies. All components have been matured in a variety of casks including bourbon, mizunara, and sherry casks, contributing to the whisky's deep and complex profile.
