Akkeshi Shoman 2023 is a blended whisky from the Akkeshi Distillery, part of their 24 Season series. This particular release is the 11th season in the series. The whisky is crafted using a diverse blend of casks, including bourbon, sherry, wine, mizunara, and rum casks, making it the most rum cask-intensive blend in the series to date. The key malt used in this blend is from Hokkaido Quercus crispula, which is a standard for Akkeshi whisky. The whisky has an alcohol content of 48% and is available in 700ml bottles, with a limited release of 10,000 bottles.

Tasting Note

Nose

The nose opens with yellow tropical fruits such as pineapple, followed by a complex mix of charcoal, grilled sausage, bacon, pancake, maple, honey, muscat, and delaware. There is also an oriental aroma reminiscent of incense and a smoky undertone

Palate

On the palate, the whisky presents flavours of honey, mango jam, lemon peel, and herbs. The taste evolves gradually, revealing a depth of flavour that includes honey lemon and peat.

Finish

The finish is characterised by fresh citrus acidity, a tidal and spicy finish, with notes of white pepper, citrus sweetness, and citrus peel.
