Akkeshi New Born 2018 Foundation 1 is the first release from the Akkeshi Distillery, which began operations in 2016 in Hokkaido, Japan. This whisky is a non-peated single malt, aged between 5 to 14 months in bourbon barrels. It represents the initial steps of Akkeshi Distillery in establishing its unique profile in the world of Japanese whisky.

Tasting Note

Nose

The aroma is characterised by a sweet and fruity profile, with notes of vanilla, caramel, and a hint of fresh citrus. There are also subtle undertones of oak and a light floral scent.

Palate

On the palate, the whisky is smooth and slightly creamy, with flavours of honey, malt, and a touch of spice. The bourbon barrel aging imparts a gentle sweetness, complemented by hints of dried fruits and a mild nuttiness.

Finish

The finish is relatively short but pleasant, leaving a lingering sweetness and a soft, malty aftertaste. There is a slight warmth from the alcohol, balanced by the overall smoothness of the whisky.
